Education Ministry Cancels NTI’s 2026 NCE, Degree Admissions Over Regulatory Violations

The Federal Government has suspended the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI), Kaduna, from admitting students into its National Certificate in Education (NCE) and degree programmes for the 2026 academic session over alleged regulatory violations.

The Federal Ministry of Education announced the decision on Saturday in a statement signed by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade.

The ministry said all admissions into the affected programmes for the 2026 academic session had been cancelled, directing the institute to discontinue its university affiliations and existing degree-awarding arrangements.

It also warned prospective students and parents against applying for admission, accepting admission offers or making payments for the programmes, regardless of whether they are offered through full-time, part-time or Distance Learning Studies.

According to the ministry, the decision followed NTI’s violation of the Ministerial Operational Guidelines issued on September 12, 2025.

It explained that NCE admissions must comply with the requirements of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and accreditation standards established by the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE).

The ministry also directed the National Universities Commission (NUC) to notify affected universities and ensure compliance with the order terminating NTI’s degree-awarding arrangements.

However, it assured existing students that measures were being put in place to prevent disruption to their education.

It said the NCCE would conduct an accreditation exercise covering NCE II–IV Distance Learning programmes and study centres across the six geopolitical zones, adding that eligible students would be allowed to complete their programmes, subject to accreditation outcomes and other regulatory requirements.

The ministry clarified that the institute’s statutory mandate remains focused on teacher training, retraining, in-service development and continuous professional development.

It added that NTI could continue to offer a three-to-six-month Special Abridged Programme for serving teachers with non-Education degrees to acquire the professional competencies required for registration with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, subject to applicable regulations.

The ministry urged prospective students, parents and other stakeholders to verify the accreditation and admission status of educational programmes with relevant regulatory authorities before applying or making payments.
