The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has arrived at the Niger State Government House in Minna over the deaths of 37 suspected illegal miners in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
Disu, who was received by Governor Umaru Bago, commiserated with the state over the incident.
The Inspector-General assured the governor of a thorough and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The meeting comes amid growing calls for accountability and investigations by federal and state authorities into the deaths of the detainees.
