Abia State Governor Alex Otti has received a free nomination form for the Abia State governorship elections from the Labour Party ahead of the 2027 general elections, in what party leaders described as recognition of his performance in office.
The form was presented at the governor’s lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, during a visit by members of the party’s National Working Committee led by acting national chairperson Nenadi Usman.
At the presentation, Usman praised Otti for serving as the “poster boy of the Labour Party” and for implementing the party’s principles of “equal opportunity and social justice” in Abia State.
She said the free nomination form was given in recognition of the governor’s “outstanding performance in office” and to encourage him to continue delivering good governance to the people of the state.
The party’s National Secretary, Obioma Iheanacho, also commended Otti for remaining committed to the party “even at a time when the party was faced with internal challenges and many others had abandoned it.”
Responding, Otti thanked the party leadership for the gesture, saying he did not take the honour lightly and would continue to support the Labour Party in every possible way.
The governor also praised Usman for helping to stabilise the party, saying she successfully guided it through a difficult period. He added that “the coast is now clear” for the party ahead of future elections because “all legal impediments” had been resolved.
Among those present at the ceremony were actress and National Woman Leader Hilda Dokubo, National Organising Secretary Oluchi Oparah, and former National Secretary Darlington Nwokocha.
