Manchester United secured a third straight victory on Thursday night as a 23rd minute Jadon Sancho strike was enough to see the Red Devils gain three points against rock bottom Leicester City.

United started the game very well, dominating in the early stages and were duly rewarded as Marcus Rashford teed up Jadon Sancho, who calmly rounded Leicester goalkeeper Danny Ward to slot the ball into an empty net.

Leicester City put in a fight in the second half as James Maddison’s free kick forcied a fine save from David De Gea and James Justin blazed his shot wide in added time. It ultimately wasn’t enough as Brendan Rodgers’ side succumbed to defeat making it their worst league start since 1994.

Speaking after the game, Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag praised the team’s defensive performance but still noted that there is room for improvement

"I felt we were quite solid. It was a quite solid performance, we had to defend with 11 and we did that very well. There were some moments, but I think we should have been up 2-0 by then. We had some good counter-attacking opportunities and should have taken them.”

“Maybe it's too quick to say [we have turned a corner], we're happy with it, we're building a team and a squad who are sticking together, fighting for each other, they co-operate and if you do that, you get the right results. We have to step it up further, and Sunday will be a really good game, a really good test, so we're looking forward.”

For Manchester United, it is a much needed victory as they head into Sunday’s game against League leaders Arsenal.

Leicester on the other hand will be looking to halt this poor run when they face Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.
