Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman and head coach Éric Chelle have been honoured after impressive performances in the group stage of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

CAF named Lookman in its Group Stage Best XI and Chelle as Nigeria’s best coach.

The Atalanta winger was instrumental in helping the Super Eagles top Group C.

He scored and set up goals across matches, including a key contribution in the 3–1 win over Uganda that secured Nigeria’s place in the knockout rounds.

CAF’s Best XI featured players from across the continent, including Mohamed El Shenawy (Egypt) in goal, Edmond Tapsoba (Burkina Faso), and Sadio Mané (Senegal).

Lookman was the only Nigerian player selected, highlighting his standout impact.

Coach Chelle was praised for building a disciplined and balanced team that excelled in quick transitions and tactical awareness.

Speaking at a news conference, he urged his team to remain focused, saying, “We are our first opponent.”

The AFCON 2025 Round of 16 will kick off on 3rd January 2026.

Nigeria is set to face Mozambique on Monday, 5th January, aiming to advance to the quarterfinals and continue their pursuit of a fourth African title.
