A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has said the political coalition that helped former President Muhammadu Buhari win the 2015 election could play a key role in defeating President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Speaking on the prospects of the ADC, Momodu said the experience and structure of that earlier alliance remain relevant.

According to him, “the gang that made Buhari president” is still influential and can be mobilised to support a new opposition movement.

He explained that winning against an incumbent president would require strategy, unity, and lessons from past elections.

“You don’t need to reinvent the wheel,” Momodu said, stressing that the opposition must build on proven political alliances.

Momodu noted that several prominent politicians are now aligning with the ADC, which he described as a growing platform for opposition forces ahead of the next general elections.

He added that the party has the capacity to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress if it manages its internal affairs well.

The media entrepreneur also pointed to the importance of strong candidates and coordination among opposition figures, saying success in 2027 would depend on presenting a united front.

His comments come amid ongoing political realignments, with key figures across parties exploring possible coalitions.

Analysts say such moves could reshape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 polls.

Momodu has previously argued that defeating Tinubu is “not impossible” if the opposition remains organised and closely monitors the electoral process.

Observers say the coming months will be critical as parties negotiate alliances and strategies that could determine the outcome of Nigeria’s next presidential election.
