Morocco has said it is ready to host the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after the recent ruling by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) that awarded it the men’s AFCON title.
The North African country had earlier faced doubts over its ability to host the women’s tournament due to scheduling and logistics concerns.
But officials now say preparations are back on track.
According to reports, Morocco expressed confidence in its readiness, saying it is “fully prepared” to stage the competition despite earlier uncertainty.
The statement comes just days after CAF’s Appeals Board stripped Senegal of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title and awarded it to Morocco, a decision that has sparked debate across African football.
Morocco’s renewed commitment is important because the tournament had already been postponed and moved to later in the year to allow more time for preparations.
CAF had earlier confirmed Morocco as the host nation and maintained that preparations were ongoing, even as other countries like South Africa showed interest in stepping in if needed.
The 2026 WAFCON will be played in cities such as Rabat and Casablanca and will also serve as part of the qualification process for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Morocco’s strong hosting record in recent tournaments has also boosted confidence in its ability to deliver a successful event.
With the latest assurances, CAF is expected to continue working with Moroccan authorities to ensure the competition holds smoothly later this year.
