The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it has arrested a 41-year-old Brazil-based businessman and several other suspects in nationwide operations that led to the recovery of cocaine, cannabis and other illicit drugs across multiple states.
The agency said the businessman, Abugu Oliver Ikechukwu, was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos after arriving from Brazil via Ethiopia.
NDLEA operatives reportedly discovered 14 shirts and towels soaked in liquid cocaine, weighing 6.10 kilograms in total.
“He claims he has lived for over 14 years in Brazil where he runs an African restaurant,” the agency said, adding that he said he came to Nigeria to visit his wife and buy food items.
In separate operations, NDLEA said it detained a 60-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man, both persons living with disability, for drug-related offences in Abia and Rivers States.

It also announced arrests and seizures in Kano, Kwara, Delta, Gombe, Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory.
In Delta, operatives arrested a suspect found with gas cylinders used to conceal 2.8 kilograms of cannabis.
In Gombe, two suspected dealers were caught with 2.738 kilograms of skunk.
In Kwara, officers intercepted 304 kilograms of cannabis in a Toyota jeep, while in Kano, another suspect was arrested with 6,000 tablets of tramadol.

The agency also recovered 1,121.5 kilograms of cannabis in Taraba and 1,102 kilograms of “Ghana Loud” in Lagos.
NDLEA Chairman Mohamed Buba Marwa praised the operations, saying officers “continued to surpass their previous records” while balancing enforcement with “WADA sensitisation activities” across communities and schools nationwide.
