The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has warned that many parts of the country will experience dusty and hazy weather for three days starting Saturday.

In a weather outlook released in Abuja, the agency said dust haze is expected across much of the country from Saturday through Monday.

According to the forecast, northern Nigeria will see moderate dust haze on Saturday, with visibility expected to range between two and five kilometres.

However, the agency said some states could experience worse conditions.

“Parts of Katsina State, Kano State and Jigawa State may record more severe conditions, where visibility could drop to 1,000 metres or less during the forecast period,” the agency said.

NiMet said the North-Central region is also likely to experience similar moderate dust haze during the three-day period.

In southern Nigeria, the weather is expected to be mostly sunny with some clouds. But the agency said there is a small chance of rain in some coastal states.

“There are slim chances of isolated afternoon or evening thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall” in parts of Lagos, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states, the forecast said.

The agency advised Nigerians to take precautions during the dusty conditions, especially people with breathing problems.

It warned that “dust particles remain suspended in the atmosphere,” which may affect people with respiratory conditions such as asthma.

NiMet also urged drivers to be careful on the roads, especially during rainfall.

Airline operators were advised to obtain airport-specific weather updates to help ensure safe flight planning during the forecast period.
