The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a three-day spell of dust haze and sunshine across the country, beginning Monday, with reduced visibility expected in parts of the North.

In its latest weather outlook released in Abuja, NiMet said “slight dust haze is expected across the northern region throughout the forecast period,” with some areas such as Borno and Yobe likely to experience more intense conditions.

The agency noted that in those areas, visibility could drop to between “2km and 5km,” making movement more difficult for road users and affecting outdoor activities.

For the North-Central region, NiMet predicted similar conditions, stating that “a slight dust haze is expected across the region throughout the forecast period.”

In contrast, southern states are expected to experience a mix of cloudiness and sunshine. NiMet said there will be “a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine” across the region.

It added that there are chances of thunderstorms and light rainfall later in the day over parts of Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Delta, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.

By midweek, conditions are expected to worsen in parts of the country. NiMet warned that “a thick dust haze is anticipated” across the northern and North-Central regions.

The agency advised Nigerians to take precautions, especially those with respiratory conditions, noting that dust particles will remain suspended in the air.

NiMet also urged airline operators to obtain weather reports for safe flight planning, as the hazy conditions could affect visibility and operations.

The forecast highlights ongoing dry season conditions and the need for public awareness as weather patterns continue to shift across the country.
