The Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, says that Nigeria's case is very tight after the NFF filed a petition to FIFA over DR Congo's squad.
The Super Eagles lost to Congo in the African playoffs and later filed a formal protest with FIFA, alleging that their opponents used ineligible players for the match.
If this is true, Congo could lose their slot in the intercontinental playoffs to Nigeria, who they defeated on penalties.
The Nigeria Football Federation's petition says several players who switched international allegiance to DR Congo did not follow the country’s nationality rules before being cleared to play.
“There are so many of them that have European passports," NFF general secretary Mohammed Sanusi told reporters.
"FIFA goes by its own regulations, and it was on the basis of what was presented to FIFA that they cleared them.
"But we are saying that it was fraudulent," he added.
NSC chairman Dikko said Nigeria’s case is solid.
“Our case is very tight, we’re not sore losers, this is part of the law,” he told Arise TV, adding there are “suspicions that somethings have not been done right in accordance with the laws of the game.”
DR Congo’s football body has rejected the claims, writing on social media: “If you cannot win on the pitch, then do not try to win from the back door. The World Cup has to be played with dignity and confidence. Not with lawyers' tricks. Bring it on.”
FIFA has acknowledged receipt of the complaint and is reviewing the documents.
If FIFA finds rule breaches, DR Congo could be disqualified and Nigeria — or the next eligible team — might be reinstated for the intercontinental playoff in March.
The governing body has not given a deadline for a ruling.
