President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Osun Gov. Ademola Adeleke on his re-election, saying the result shows that democracy can continue to flourish in Nigeria.

The president’s comments were contained in a direct statement issued Sunday and shared by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The statement was also published by the State House.

Tinubu said he had called Adeleke to congratulate him after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared him the winner of Saturday’s governorship election.

“I called Governor Ademola Adeleke earlier today to congratulate him on his election victory in Osun State.

"His victory once again confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State have in him,” Tinubu said.

He urged Adeleke to use his second term to unite residents and work for the development of the state, regardless of how they voted.

“Now that he has won, Governor Adeleke must unite the people of Osun State and rally them for growth, stability, and social and economic progress, regardless of the political choices they made at the election,” the president said.

Tinubu also praised the other candidates for their conduct during the election, saying their participation strengthened Nigeria’s democratic process.

“I salute the courage and discipline displayed by other contestants in the election.

"Their participation deepened and enriched our country’s democratic culture,” he said.

He described the election result as a reflection of voters’ choice and said it offered confidence in Nigeria’s democratic system.

“The outcome of the election reflects the will of the people and is a fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in our land,” Tinubu said.

The president also commended INEC and the security agencies for what he described as a peaceful and transparent election that produced a clear winner.

Adeleke, the Accord Party candidate, defeated All Progressives Congress candidate Bola Oyebamiji to secure another four-year term.
