Police Investigate Killing of Arise News Anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu in Abuja Robbery

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has opened an investigation into the killing of Arise News anchor, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, who was shot dead during a robbery at her Katampe residence in Abuja in the early hours of Monday.

The Command’s Spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed that no arrests have been made yet but assured that officers are working to track down those responsible.

Maduagwu, 29, was a lawyer who transitioned into broadcasting, serving as an anchor, reporter, and producer with Arise News Channel.

Her death was announced in a statement by Arise News management, which described her as “a vibrant voice that engaged and connected with our viewers” and “a cherished member of the Arise News family.”

The statement, signed by Hadiza Usman-Ajayi, added:
“Sommie tragically passed away in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025, following an armed robbery incident at her residence in Katampe, Abuja, now under police investigation. Sommie’s voice is now silent, but her spirit, passion, and legacy will endure as part of our collective memory.”
