President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, on his 85th birthday, praising the monarch’s contributions to national development, peace-building and traditional leadership.

In a statement issued Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president described the respected traditional ruler as “a symbol of unity, grace, and integrity.”

Tinubu paid tribute to Achebe’s long career in both the corporate and traditional sectors, noting that the monarch had served as a director in Shell Petroleum Company in Nigeria and held leadership positions in other Shell companies across Europe and Africa before ascending the throne of Onitsha.

The president described the monarch as a “foremost traditional ruler in the South-East, corporate leader, oil and gas expert, and boardroom guru.”

According to the statement, Tinubu commended Achebe for his efforts to promote peace and development in his kingdom and beyond.

The president praised the monarch’s “peace-building efforts, youth empowerment schemes, and socio-economic development programmes in his domain and beyond.”

Tinubu also highlighted Achebe’s role in strengthening national unity, saying he had made important contributions to “deepening national cohesion” and had served as “a critical bridge between grassroots communities and the government.”

The president further acknowledged the monarch’s decades of service in “corporate leadership, enterprise, and governance.”

Joining the royal family and the people of Anambra State in celebrating the occasion, Tinubu wished the traditional ruler “many more years of good health and strength” as he continues to provide leadership to his community, state and the nation.

Achebe is one of Nigeria’s most respected traditional rulers and has occupied the Onitsha throne since 2002.
