The Rivers State Ministry of Education has reaffirmed its unwavering support for the state’s student representatives at the upcoming I Beg To Differ National Debate Competition.
In an official goodwill message issued on August 7, 2026, the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Dr. Peters Nwagor, extended the warm wishes of the state government and citizens to the students and teachers forming "Team Rivers".
Dr. Nwagor praised the debaters for their hard work, discipline, and intellectual ability, noting that earning the opportunity to represent the state on a national stage is a remarkable milestone.
"Your participation in this prestigious event is a testament to your hard work, intellectual ability, discipline, and commitment to excellence," Dr. Nwagor stated.
"As ambassadors of Rivers State, remember that success in debate goes beyond winning trophies.
"It is an opportunity to demonstrate critical thinking, effective communication, teamwork, and leadership."
The Commissioner lauded the organisers of the competition, Nigeria Info FM, for their sustained commitment to youth development.
He highlighted that the annual tournament plays a vital role in shaping young minds and preparing them for active civic participation in society.
Dr. Nwagor also acknowledged the school administrators, teachers, coaches, and parents behind Team Rivers, commending their dedication to nurturing the next generation of leaders and change-makers.
Encouraging the debaters to approach the tournament with confidence, courage, and integrity, Dr. Nwagor emphasised that the state is already proud of their achievements, regardless of the competition's final outcome.

Team Rivers this year consists of Community Secondary School Rumuolumeni, Pleroma International High School, Vernocrest Schools, Laurels Model College and Silverbird International High School.
