Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu says the state is strengthening its waste management system with new infrastructure to tackle sanitation challenges.

In a post on X, the governor said he visited Surulere to inspect the monthly environmental sanitation exercise and monitor cleanup operations carried out by residents and officials of the Ministry of Environment.

He said the exercise highlighted the importance of shared responsibility in keeping Lagos clean, noting that proper sanitation helps protect public health and reduce flooding.

Sanwo-Olu acknowledged residents’ concerns over waste disposal and assured that the government is implementing long term solutions.

He announced plans to deploy 150 new compactor trucks, introduce locally assembled tricycles to improve waste collection in inner streets, and develop facilities capable of processing thousands of tonnes of waste every day.

The governor also said the state is supporting Private Sector Participation operators to improve waste collection and service delivery across Lagos.

He commended residents who participated in the cleanup exercise, saying sustained public cooperation remains essential to building a cleaner and healthier state.
