NASA’s Artemis II astronauts have arrived at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, marking a major step toward humanity’s first crewed mission around the Moon in more than 50 years.

The four-member crew made up of Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, Mission Specialist Christina Koch, and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen, touched down aboard T-38 jets to begin final preparations for launch.

The mission, scheduled for launch “no earlier than April 1,” will see the astronauts travel on a 10-day journey around the Moon and back to Earth using NASA’s Space Launch System rocket and Orion spacecraft.

Speaking after their arrival, Wiseman highlighted the spirit of the mission, noting that exploration on this scale requires unity.

One crew message stressed that “if we want to go far, we have to do it together,” reflecting the international partnership behind Artemis.

NASA officials say Artemis II will test critical systems, including life support and navigation, in deep space, laying the groundwork for future missions that aim to land humans on the Moon again.

The mission is also historic for its diverse crew.

Koch is set to become the first woman to travel to the Moon’s vicinity, while Glover will be the first Black astronaut to do so, and Hansen the first non-American on such a mission.

NASA says the flight builds on the success of Artemis I in 2022 and is part of a broader plan to establish a long-term human presence on the Moon.

With final checks underway and global attention building, Artemis II is widely seen as a defining moment in a new era of space exploration.
