President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance, according to a statement from the State House on Tuesday.

The statement said Oyedele will replace Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite, who “will now move to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning, as the Minister of State, her third portfolio in the administration.”

President Tinubu has “conveyed the nomination of Oyedele to the Senate for confirmation in a letter to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio,” the release added.

Until his nomination, Oyedele was chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, which the presidency said “overhauled Nigeria’s tax system.”

He is from Ikaram, Akoko, in Ondo State.

Oyedele, 50, is described as “an economist, accountant and public policy expert.”

He holds a Higher National Diploma in accountancy and finance from Yaba College of Technology and a Bachelor of Science degree in applied accounting from Oxford Brookes University.

He also completed executive education programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science and the Harvard Kennedy School.

The statement said Oyedele spent 22 years at PwC, where he rose to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.

He is also a professor at Babcock University in Ogun State and a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.

The Senate must confirm his nomination before he can assume office.
