Zamfara Gov. Dauda Lawal on Thursday visited Bungudu Local Government Area after a recent bandit attack, offering condolences to families affected by the violence and promising stronger action against criminals.
Lawal said his administration would not negotiate with or give in to bandits as he visited the palace of the Emir of Bungudu, Alhaji Hassan Attahiru.
“I am here to express my sympathy and offer condolences to the families, the Emir, and the people of Bungudu following last week’s bandit attacks,” Lawal said.
The July 25 attack left four security personnel dead and led to the abduction of Bungudu Local Government Chairman Nura Umar Abdullahi.
His wife and children were also taken but were later released.
Two other residents were abducted.
Lawal said the attack was a difficult moment for the community but promised continued government support.
“This is a test from Almighty Allah, and we will overcome it,” he said.
“The state government is dedicating resources and efforts to end the threat of banditry.”
He also promised to help the injured and work to secure the release of people still being held by the attackers.
“We will continue to provide all necessary assistance to those injured and will do everything possible to secure the safe return of all kidnapped victims,” Lawal said.
The governor later visited the families of the late Alhaji Bello Umar Bungudu and other victims.
The emir thanked Lawal for his response, saying, “I am confident that we will overcome the challenge of banditry.”
