Nigeria will rely on rising sprint star Miracle Ezechukwu and teenage throwing sensation Jessica Oji to lead a 15-member team to the 2026 World Athletics U-20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon, from 5th to 9th August.
The Athletics Federation of Nigeria named a youthful squad of 15 athletes featuring some of the country's brightest prospects as they seek strong performances against the world's best junior athletes at Hayward Field.
Ezechukwu heads to Oregon after an impressive season that included representing Nigeria at the Commonwealth Games, while Oji arrives as one of Africa's leading young throwers following her switch of allegiance to Nigeria earlier this year and her capture of the Commonwealth silver medal.
The Nigerian team also includes Success Oyibu, Samuel Akinlosotu, Godbless Agbasonu, Divine Bamigboye and several other promising athletes across the sprints, relays and field events.
Ahead of the championships, World Athletics identified Ezechukwu and Oyibu among the athletes to watch in the women's 200 metres, underlining Nigeria's growing reputation in the junior ranks.
According to the governing body, Ezechukwu has already shown she can perform on the biggest stages after competing at the Commonwealth Games, while Oyibu arrives with the credentials of an African junior champion.
World Athletics said Ezechukwu "will be eager to carry her form onto another global stage," while describing Oyibu as "another athlete capable of challenging for the medals" in a highly competitive field.
The recognition is another boost for Team Nigeria, whose young athletes will be aiming to translate their recent continental success into podium finishes at one of the world's biggest age-grade athletics competitions.
More than 1,700 athletes from nearly 200 countries are expected to compete in Oregon.
