Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu says the state is ready to host the 2026 Confederation of African Football Awards after a CAF delegation inspected the venue for the ceremony.
A five-member CAF team visited the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, also known as the National Theatre in Iganmu, on Monday as part of preparations for the annual awards and the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly.
The delegation, led by CAF Head of Safety and Security Dr. Christian Emeruwa, was received by officials of the Lagos State Sports Commission, led by Director-General Lekan Fatodu.
The team also included officials responsible for technology, transport, travel and accommodation, and branding.
After the inspection, Sanwo-Olu said Lagos was committed to delivering a successful event.
"We guided them through the venue and gathered their feedback.
"Hosting an event of this scale means every single detail counts and our team is working hard behind the scenes to make sure we get it right," the governor said.
He added, "Lagos is ready and we look forward to putting on a brilliant show for African football."
Nigeria last hosted the CAF Awards in Lagos in January 2015.
This year's ceremony will return to the city, while Abuja will host the CAF Ordinary General Assembly on 21st November 2026.
The date for the awards ceremony has yet to be announced.
Before arriving in Lagos, the CAF delegation inspected facilities in Abuja, including the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre and the Transcorp Hilton Hotel.
The inspection is part of preparations for Nigeria's hosting of the two major CAF events, approved by President Bola Tinubu after a request from CAF President Patrice Motsepe.
