The Nigeria Football Federation has set up a fact-finding committee to investigate the country’s recent poor performances in international football, with particular focus on the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The decision follows Nigeria’s disappointing campaign at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The Super Falcons were eliminated in the quarterfinals before losing 2-1 to South Africa in the playoff for a place in the intercontinental playoffs.
The defeat means Nigeria will miss the Women’s World Cup for the first time since the tournament began in 1991.
The NFF said the committee would investigate the “setbacks” and make recommendations to improve the performance of Nigeria’s national teams in future competitions.
Former NFF General Secretary Ambassador Fanny Amun will chair the committee.
Former Nigeria under-20 coach Ladan Bosso, former Super Falcons captain Desire Oparanozie, former Super Eagles captain Mutiu Adepoju and former FIFA referee Dr. Alex Mana are members.
Nasiru Jibril, chairman of the Sokoto State Football Association, will serve as secretary, according to the NFF.
The federation said the investigation would cover the country’s “poor run in international competitions,” rather than focusing only on the Super Falcons.
The committee’s work comes as pressure grows on the NFF and the Super Falcons’ technical team following Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2027 World Cup.
Coach Justin Madugu has accepted responsibility for the result but defended his record and said any decision about his future should be taken in good faith.
The NFF said the committee’s findings and recommendations are expected to guide measures to prevent a repeat of the recent setbacks.
