England manager Thomas Tuchel has left out big names including Cole Palmer, Phil Foden and Harry Maguire after unveiling his squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The announcement has sparked strong reactions from fans, pundits and former England players, with many surprised by the omissions of experienced stars and recent Premier League standouts.

Maguire reacted before the official squad release, admitting he was deeply disappointed to miss out.

According to his social media posts, the Manchester United defender was “shocked” and “gutted” after learning of Tuchel’s decision.

Tuchel instead selected a squad built around younger players and fresh energy, while recalling striker Ivan Toney after a long absence from the national team.

England captain Harry Kane will lead the side alongside key players such as Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice.

Several football pundits questioned the decision to leave out Maguire, who has been one of England’s most reliable defenders at major tournaments.

Former England defender Stuart Pearce reportedly described the number of high-profile omissions as unusual, while former Manchester United manager Steve Bruce questioned why experienced players were ignored.

There was also debate around Palmer and Foden, two of England’s most talented attacking players.

Reports said Tuchel was unhappy with recent performances and wanted players who better fit his tactical system.

England will head to the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico hoping to win their first World Cup since 1966.

The team reached the semifinals in 2018 and the quarterfinals in 2022 but has repeatedly fallen short in recent tournaments.

Tuchel’s squad also includes several World Cup debutants, showing the manager is ready to trust a new generation as England chases international success once again.
