Cristiano Ronaldo's future with Portugal has become a major talking point at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after his sister, Katia Aveiro, said the tournament will be the final chapter of his international career.
Speaking before Portugal's Round of 32 victory over Croatia, Aveiro suggested the 41-year-old captain is preparing to retire from international football after the World Cup.
"Enjoy it while it lasts. It's ending soon," she said.
"The information I have, from a reliable source, is that this is his last dance."
She added, "I strongly believe this is the farewell.
"Enjoy it because it will be difficult to find someone after 200 goals for the Portuguese national team."
The comments came as Ronaldo continued adding to his remarkable career.
He scored from the penalty spot against Croatia to become the oldest player to score in a World Cup knockout match before Portugal won 2-1 to reach the Round of 16.
However, Ronaldo later played down suggestions that he had already decided to retire.
"My future isn't important right now," he said after the match.
"I'll have time, after winning or losing, to talk to my family and then make the best decision.
"I don't make decisions in the heat of the moment anymore."
Ronaldo has represented Portugal for more than two decades, becoming the country's all-time appearance holder and leading goalscorer.
He has won the UEFA European Championship and the UEFA Nations League and is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in football history.
For now, the veteran forward remains focused on helping Portugal chase a second World Cup title.
Whether this tournament proves to be his final appearance for his country is a decision he says will be made only after Portugal's campaign comes to an end.
