Atiku Vows to Remain in 2027 Presidential Race Despite Court Ruling

Atiku Abubakar has vowed to remain in the 2027 presidential race, insisting that no court ruling or political pressure will force him to withdraw.

Atiku, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), made the declaration in a statement issued in Sokoto on Friday, titled, “Bola Cannot Use the Courts to Escape the People’s Verdict; We Are on the Ballot.”

“Let me be clear to every Nigerian who has stood with us: I am in this race.

"I am not going anywhere.

"We will be on the ballot.

"No threat, blackmail or court manoeuvre will make me abandon you or the cause we share,” he said.

His statement followed a Federal High Court judgment delivered on Thursday by Justice Peter Lifu, which nullified the David Mark-led ADC leadership and decisions taken by the party under it, including the process that produced Atiku as its presidential candidate.

The ruling followed a suit filed by Nafiu Bala Gombe, a former deputy national chairman of the party, who challenged the emergence of the Mark-led leadership.

Atiku accused President Bola Tinubu's administration of using political pressure and court cases to weaken opposition parties and push Nigeria towards a one-party state.

He also criticised the government's economic policies, citing rising food and fuel prices, the depreciation of the naira and growing insecurity.

“We will resist with all our strength every attempt to turn Nigeria into a one-party state.

"Nigeria belongs to all its people,” he said.

Meanwhile, the ADC has appealed the judgment and applied for a stay of execution, asking the Independent National Electoral Commission to await the outcome of the legal challenge.

The APC has denied involvement in the dispute, urging the ADC to resolve its internal problems through the courts.
