1.3 Million Nigerians Pre-Register for CVR in One Week - INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that over 1.37 million Nigerians completed their online pre-registration for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise within the first week of its launch.

According to Mr. Sam Olumekun, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, a total of 1,379,342 Nigerians pre-registered nationwide between Monday, August 18, and Sunday, August 24.

The data released by the commission shows a significant turnout in certain states, with Osun State leading the pre-registration with 393,823 registrants (28.51%), followed by Lagos with 222,205 registrants (16.11%).

In contrast, Ebonyi State recorded the lowest number with just 261 pre-registrations.

Further breakdown of the demographics shows:

  • Gender: 717,856 (52.04%) of the registrants are female, while 661,846 (47.96%) are male.

  • Age: Young people between the ages of 18 and 34 constitute the majority, with 860,286 (62.37%) of the total.

  • Occupation: Students represent the largest occupational group, with 374,534 registrants (27.15%).

  • Disability: A total of 27,089 registrants (1.96%) are persons with disabilities.

Olumekun also reminded Nigerians that the physical registration phase began on Monday at INEC offices nationwide. He urged all eligible citizens who have not yet registered to do so promptly and not wait until the August 30, 2026, deadline to avoid a last-minute rush.

He also reiterated that double or multiple registration is a violation of the law.
