Abuja-Kaduna Train Derails, Stranding Passengers

A passenger train on the popular Abuja-Kaduna rail line derailed on Tuesday morning, leaving several carriages overturned and sparking widespread panic among those on board.

The incident occurred around 11 a.m. shortly after the train departed from Abuja, with passengers describing a chaotic scene as they scrambled to safety.

The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Kayode Opeifa, confirmed the incident, stating that a rescue operation was underway.

No casualties have been officially confirmed at this time.

This incident marks the latest in a series of disruptions on the Abuja-Kaduna route. Last week, the NRC confirmed a "hot axle" fault on a train near Rigasa Station, which led to temporary service disruptions.

The line, which is one of the busiest in Nigeria, has a history of challenges, including a major security breach in 2022 that led to a suspension of services for several months.
