ADC Chairman David Mark Urges Unity, Tackling of Insecurity Ahead of 2027 Elections

National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, has called for greater national efforts to address insecurity and economic hardship, while urging party members to remain united ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the party’s National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja on Saturday, Mark said Nigeria faces significant challenges, including insecurity, rising living costs, unemployment and declining purchasing power.

He said communities across the country continue to suffer from violence and displacement, while many businesses and families are struggling under difficult economic conditions.

“As a responsible opposition party, the ADC does not celebrate the difficulties confronting our nation, nor do we seek political advantage from the pain of our people,” Mark said.

He urged governments at all levels to intensify efforts to restore security and implement policies that improve the lives of ordinary Nigerians.

The former Senate president also used the meeting to stress the importance of strengthening internal democracy within the ADC, describing the National Executive Committee as the party’s highest policy-making organ outside its convention.

According to him, the party must continue to uphold transparency, fairness, discipline and accountability in its affairs.

Mark said the ADC must remain a platform for Nigerians seeking credible leadership and a genuine democratic alternative.

Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, he called on party leaders and members to put the interests of the party above personal ambitions and resolve disagreements through dialogue and established party mechanisms.

“Our strength lies not in division but in unity,” he said.

He urged members across the country to expand the party’s grassroots presence, increase membership and continue offering practical solutions to the challenges facing Nigerians.

Mark said strong political parties are built on enduring values and institutions rather than individual personalities, adding that the ADC must remain focused on its vision of providing effective leadership for the country.
