Benue Assembly Elects New Speaker After Dajoh's Resignation

The Benue State House of Assembly has elected Alfred Berger (APC/Makurdi North) as its new speaker, following the resignation of Hyacinth Dajoh.

The election took place during an emergency plenary session on Sunday. Douglas Akya (APC/Makurdi South) moved the motion to elect Berger, which was then seconded by Abu Umoru (PDP/Apa).

The deputy speaker, Lami Danladi, presided over the vote, and all members present unanimously approved Berger's appointment.

In his acceptance speech, Berger praised Dajoh for his contributions to the state's legislative process and pledged to work collaboratively with all the members of the assembly.

Dajoh's resignation, announced on Sunday, has been described by political observers as occurring under "controversial circumstances."
