Contempt: Court Convicts EFCC Chairman

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of Abdulrasheed Bawa, chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), for contempt of court.

The order was issued by Justice Chizoba Oji following a motion filed by retired Air Vice Marshal Adeniyi Ojuawo against the federal government.

Justice Oji held that the EFCC chairman is in contempt of the orders of the court made on November 21, 2018, directing the anti-graft agency to return the applicant's Range Rover (supercharged) and the sum of N40 million.

Justice Oji subsequently ordered that Bawa be committed to prison at Kuje Correctional Centre, Abuja for his continued disobedience of the said order until he purges himself of contempt.

“The Inspector-General of Police shall ensure that the order of this honourable court is executed forthwith,” the presiding judge said.
