The Dangote Group is planning to sharply scale up its haulage operations, targeting a fleet of 10,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered trucks as part of its strategy to improve fuel distribution and reduce logistics costs in Nigeria’s downstream oil sector.

The company has already imported 4,000 natural gas-powered trucks to distribute petrol and diesel from its refinery to customers, cutting out middlemen.

The 4,000 trucks represent a major investment — at least ₦720 billion — aimed at enabling Dangote Refinery to supply refined fuel directly to retail stations, industrial users, and telecom companies.

The new CNG trucks began loading petroleum products at the Dangote Refinery on Monday.

Aliko Dangote, the founder of Dangote Group, disclosed the plan to eventually scale to 10,000 CNG trucks — including dry cargo carriers — at a news conference on the same day.

"Every day, trucks will be arriving. By the end of November, we will have 10,250 CNG trucks in operation,” he said.

His company has committed ₦2 trillion to trucks and logistics, he added, and plans to introduce electric vehicles by January 2026 as part of its transition blueprint.

Dangote brushed off the threat of the truck drivers' union, NUPENG, signaling that job creation was more important to him.

“Our aim is to modernise, generate jobs every day, and make life easier for Nigerians. We are not going to be distracted by the noise of unions,” he enthused.

“We are not here to take anyone out of the market. The trucks we are deploying have already created 24,000 jobs, with salaries four times the minimum wage.”
