The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) has concluded investigations into disciplinary cases involving sixteen officers previously arrested over alleged indiscipline and breaches of service regulations. Defence Headquarters said the investigation report has been forwarded to the appropriate superior authority in line with military procedures.
The inquiry revealed that some officers were implicated in plotting to overthrow the government, an action described as inconsistent with the ethics, values and professional standards expected of members of the AFN.
Those found to have cases to answer will be formally arraigned before a military judicial panel and will face trial under the Armed Forces Act and other relevant service regulations.
The AFN emphasized that the actions taken are disciplinary and aimed at preserving discipline, order and operational effectiveness within the armed forces. The military reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, loyalty and respect for constitutional authority.
Major General Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information, issued the statement on 26 January 2026.
