EFCC Declares Yahaya Bello Wanted

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared the former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, wanted for an alleged N80.2 billion fraud.

The anti-graft agency, in a statement, asked that anyone with vital information about Bello's whereabouts to reach the commission or the police.

The statement, posted on the EFCC’s Facebook page, reads:

“Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, is wanted by the EFCC for offences relating to economic and financial crimes to the tune of N80.2 Billion.

“Anybody with information as to his whereabouts should report immediately to the Commission or the nearest police Station.”

The declaration is the latest in the tussle between Bello and the anti-crime agency.  The chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was absent earlier on Thursday at the Federal High Court in Abuja for a suit the EFCC instituted against him.

This forced Justice Emeka Nwite to adjourn the matter to 23 April and order substituted service and Bello's possible arraignment.

The EFCC said it was considering using the military to get Governor Bello to appear before a court to face the money laundering allegations.

EFCC counsel, Kemi Phinro, told the court that Bello was being protected by someone with immunity.
