The Federal Government has donated 100 vials of Panaf Premium anti-snake venom worth N25 million to the Benue State Government to improve treatment for snakebite victims.
The consignment was presented on Friday at the Benue State Ministry of Health and Human Services in Makurdi amid concerns over snakebite cases and the high cost of treatment.
The intervention follows the death of a 14-year-old internally displaced boy, Chagu Terhemen, who was bitten by a snake at the Agagbe IDP camp.
Benue State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Paul Ogwuche, said the donation would ease the financial burden on affected families and improve access to prompt treatment.
He thanked the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare for responding to the state’s request for support.
Ogwuche assured that the consignment would be properly documented, stored and distributed to ensure it reaches patients who need it.
