Hamas says it has accepted a peace proposal put forward by US President Donald Trump, agreeing to release all Israeli hostages, both living and dead, as part of the deal.
In a statement on Friday, the group said it was ready to begin talks through mediators and was prepared to hand over administration of Gaza to an independent technocratic body, supported by Palestinian consensus and backing from Arab and Islamic states.
The plan, unveiled by the White House earlier this week, calls for an immediate end to military operations, the release of all captives within 72 hours, and the establishment of a non-partisan Palestinian committee to govern Gaza. Hamas would have no direct role in the enclave’s leadership.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has already endorsed the proposal, saying it meets Israel’s war objectives. Trump had set a Sunday deadline for Hamas to respond, warning of severe consequences if it failed to act.
It remains unclear how and when the peace plan, now accepted by both Israel and Hamas, will be implemented.
