IBTD Season 9: Two New Schools Advance to Round of 16

Season 9 of the I Beg To Differ Secondary School Debate Tournament intensified on Tuesday, with two more Round of 32 contests producing fresh qualifiers.

In the first debate on the motion “Child Marriage Should Be a Criminal Offence,” Kings and Queenies Zenith School of Ikorodu outperformed Potters Comprehensive High School.

Both schools opened strongly, but Kings and Queenies held a slight edge through the rounds and sealed victory with a final score of 98 to 91.

It was a close match between two debuting schools, with Potters Comprehensive showing promise but losing momentum in the decisive moments.

The second match featured CMS Grammar School, Bariga, against Makhraj International School on the motion “Former Governors Should Be Prohibited From Returning to Public Office.”

CMS Grammar School recovered from an early deficit, surged ahead in the middle round, and held its lead to secure a 97.5 to 94 win.

Makhraj International School delivered a solid performance but slipped in the final round, giving CMS the edge needed to advance.
Season 9 continues on Wednesday with the final set of Round of 32 matchups as schools battle for the remaining spots in the Round of 16.

More schools continue their push for the Round of 16 as the IBTD contest resumes today, Thursday at 4 p.m.
