The Lagos State Government has invited electricity regulators, distribution companies and other industry players to a summit aimed at addressing persistent power supply problems across the state.
The three-day 2026 Lagos Energy Summit will hold from November 10 to 12, with discussions expected to focus on achieving reliable, round-the-clock electricity in Lagos.
Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Biodun Ogunleye, announced the plans on Thursday during a press briefing ahead of the event.
He said the summit would examine structural problems in the electricity sector and develop practical solutions to improve supply.
The ministry's Permanent Secretary, Ibilola Kasumu, said the meeting would move beyond speeches and focus on finding solutions to actual industry challenges.
“This summit is going to be different from the last one.
"It is not just going to be a talk shop.
"We are going to bring real problems to the table and look for solutions from different experts in this sector,” she said.
Kasumu said the government hoped to establish a framework for reliable electricity supply that could also serve as a model for other states.
Ogunleye said discussions would cover electricity sector reforms, energy efficiency, renewable energy, metering solutions and alternative energy sources.
He also disclosed that Lagos and the Federal Government were discussing ways to clarify their regulatory responsibilities and strengthen the state's control over its energy infrastructure.
The summit, themed “Lagos Energy Evolution: Transforming the Future,” will also feature clean-energy projects developed by secondary school students.
The development comes amid renewed complaints over electricity shortages.
The Nigerian Independent System Operator recently blamed reduced power generation on gas supply constraints affecting thermal plants and low water levels at hydroelectric reservoirs.
