Lagos Orders E-Hailing Vehicle Inspections Over Safety Concerns

The Lagos State Government has directed all e-hailing operators to present their vehicles for inspection as part of efforts to improve safety, service quality, and regulatory compliance.

Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the move follows reports of the poor condition of some licensed vehicles in the sector. He warned that any vehicle deemed unfit will be barred from operating on Lagos roads.

Osiyemi stressed that the state will not tolerate practices that put lives at risk, citing rising safety concerns and subpar service delivery. He also flagged the lack of robust databases among some e-hailing companies, which hampers the tracking of criminal activities linked to their services.

Permanent Secretary Olawale Musa added that all drivers must be registered and certified by the Lagos State Drivers’ Institute. Operators who fail to comply risk suspension of their licenses.

Musa also urged residents to avoid booking rides offline to ensure safety features and accountability mechanisms in the apps remain active.
