Lagos State will welcome the continent’s first E1 Electric Powerboat Championship from October 3 to 5 on the waters of Victoria Island.
E1 CEO Rodi Basso said Lagos emerged as the host city after a competitive global bid, reflecting its growing status as a hub for innovation, tourism, and marine transport.
“E1 is not just about racing, it’s about transforming the future of water mobility,” Basso said. “Our championship showcases how electric-powered boats can lead the way in sustainability, reduce environmental impact, and open new opportunities for global cities like Lagos.”
The E1 Series, the world’s only all-electric powerboat championship, has already staged events in Monaco, Venice, and Jeddah. The Lagos edition marks a major milestone in expanding its mission to promote clean energy, climate action, and cutting-edge marine technology across new frontiers.
Working with the Lagos State Government, E1 says the event will leave a lasting legacy by creating investment opportunities in sports and entertainment while putting Lagos on the global map for green innovation.
Chairman of the Local Organising Committee and Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Sam Egube, said the event is more than sport: it is a platform to project Lagos’ culture, energy, and economic potential.
“For Lagos, the City of Aquatic Splendour, this is proof of capacity,” Egube said. “It reflects our vision of being part of international conversations on clean energy and innovation while offering a thrilling global sports spectacle.”
