The Lagos State Government has announced a temporary closure of Iddo Bridge in the Ijora area of the state to allow the installation of heavy steel beams as part of ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction work.
Commissioner for Transportation Oluwaseun Osiyemi said the closure will take place in two phases: from 10 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, to 5 a.m. on Thursday, June 18, and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 21.
According to Osiyemi, the Federal Ministry of Works will carry out the installation, requiring a complete shutdown of the bridge during the specified periods to ensure safety.
“Consequently, the entire section of Iddo Bridge will be temporarily closed to vehicular movement during the periods stated above to ensure the safe installation of the steel beams on the bridge,” he said.
The state government advised motorists to use alternative routes during the closure to minimise disruption.
Motorists travelling from Oyingbo and Yaba to Ijora Olopa, Apapa and Costain have been directed to use Funsho Williams Avenue, while those coming from Marina should connect through Iddo-Onigbe, Oyingbo and Murtala Muhammed Way.
Road users heading from Apapa and Ijora Olopa toward Carter Bridge and Marina have been advised to use Eko Bridge through Apapa Road and Murtala Muhammed Way.
Osiyemi appealed for patience and cooperation from motorists, assuring residents that traffic management officials would be deployed to maintain smooth vehicular movement and reduce inconvenience during the exercise.
He added that adequate traffic control measures had been put in place to support road users throughout the temporary closure.
