LAUTECH Shuts Iseyin Campus After Student Killed in Hit-and-Run

The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Iseyin campus has been closed for two weeks after a 200-level student in the Department of Agricultural Economics lost their life following a hit-and-run incident in Iseyin town.

Students reacted angrily and marched through the town demanding justice for their colleague.

The protests and the shock of the death prompted university leaders to pause classes so students and staff could grieve, and for security to be tightened around the campus.

In an official release, the university registrar, Mrs Olayinka Balogun, announced the suspension and offered the school’s sympathy in words the management issued to the community.

“The Management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology ( LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, deeply regrets to announce the tragic passing of a 200 Level student of the Department of Agricultural Economics, who was fatally wounded by a hit-and–run driver in Iseyin.

“This heartbreaking incident has cast a shadow over our University Community, and we extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.

In light of this grievous loss, and in recognition of the emotional toll it has taken on our students and staff, the University Management has approved a two-week suspension of academic activities at the Iseyin Campus, effective immediately.”

The statement said students in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Renewable Natural Resources should stay away until classes resume on Monday, Nov. 24, 2025.

School officials and local security agencies said investigations are underway to find and arrest the driver.
