Liverpool Confirm Iraola as New Manager

Liverpool have confirmed the appointment of Andoni Iraola as the club’s new head coach following the dismissal of Arne Slot.

The 43-year-old Spaniard has signed a two-year contract that will keep him at Anfield until the end of the 2027/28 season.

Iraola replaces Slot, who was sacked just days earlier after a disappointing campaign that saw Liverpool finish outside the title race and miss out on major honours.

The former Bournemouth manager emerged as Liverpool’s top choice ahead of other candidates, including Sebastian Hoeness and Pierre Sage, with the club moving quickly to secure his signature.

Liverpool’s sporting director Richard Hughes, who previously worked with Iraola at Bournemouth, played a key role in the appointment alongside Fenway Sports Group leadership.

Iraola is expected to bring members of his backroom staff with him from Bournemouth, although the club has yet to confirm the full coaching team.

Speaking after the announcement, Iraola expressed his excitement at joining the club, describing the opportunity to coach Liverpool as one of the most attractive prospects in football.

He said the club’s history, supporters and ambition to compete for major trophies were key factors in his decision to accept the role.

Iraola arrives at Anfield with a strong reputation following his work at Bournemouth, where he implemented a high-intensity, attacking style and led the club to one of its most successful Premier League seasons.

Liverpool believe his tactical approach and ability to develop players align with the club’s long-term vision as they seek to return to competing for top honours domestically and in Europe.

The appointment marks the beginning of a new era at Anfield, with Iraola now tasked with rebuilding the squad and restoring the club’s competitive edge.
