Liverpool Sack Arne Slot One Year After Premier League Triumph

Liverpool have sacked head coach Arne Slot, bringing an end to the Dutchman's two-year spell at Anfield despite leading the club to the Premier League title last season.

The decision follows a disappointing 2025-26 campaign in which Liverpool finished fifth in the Premier League, 25 points behind champions Arsenal, and only secured UEFA Champions League qualification on the final day of the season.

Reports in England say the club's hierarchy opted for a managerial change after an end-of-season review, with concerns over the team's performances, results and overall direction.

Liverpool had entered the season with high expectations after winning the league in Slot's first year in charge and backing the squad with significant investment in the transfer market. However, the Reds struggled to mount a title challenge and endured a poor run of form during the closing stages of the campaign.

The club won just four of their final 14 matches in all competitions, while criticism also grew over Liverpool's style of play and defensive performances.

Slot leaves Anfield having delivered Liverpool's 20th English league title and becoming the first Dutch manager to win the Premier League.

Former Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has emerged as the leading candidate to replace the 47-year-old, although Liverpool are yet to announce a successor.

The managerial change comes less than a year after Slot was widely praised for succeeding Jürgen Klopp and guiding Liverpool back to the summit of English football.
