The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has granted an Air Operator Certificate to Enugu Air to commence scheduled flight operations in Nigeria’s domestic aviation sector.
The certificate was presented on Tuesday at the authority’s corporate headquarters in Abuja.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Director General of Civil Aviation, Chris Najomo, described the development as another milestone for the aviation sector, noting that the NCAA has continued to streamline the certification process while ensuring that operators meet all required safety and operational standards.
“This certification reflects our commitment to ensuring that only airlines that meet the highest safety and operational standards are allowed to operate in Nigeria’s airspace.”
He commended the airline for completing the rigorous certification process but cautioned that maintaining the certificate depends on sustained compliance with regulatory standards.
“Any drop in standard could mean losing the certification,” he warned.
The DGCA also praised the NCAA technical team and the airline’s management for their commitment throughout the certification process, which included operational demonstrations, documentation reviews, and multiple evaluation stages.
Responding on behalf of the airline, Tolu Ita described the certification as a dream come true and expressed appreciation to the regulator for its guidance and oversight during the process.
Officials present at the ceremony included the Director of Airworthiness Standards, Godwin Balang; the Director of Operations, Licensing and Training Standards, Donald Spiff; the Director of Air Transport Regulation, Olayinka Babaoye Iriobe; and the Director of Finance and Accounts, Olufemi Odukoya.
Representatives of the airline and the Enugu State government also attended, including the Commissioner for Transportation, Obi Ozor, and the Board Chairman of Enugu Air, Richard Agu.
