NFF Apologizes for Super Eagles' Failure to Qualify for 2026 World Cup

The Nigeria Football Federation has apologized to Nigerians following the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In a statement on its official X handle, the federation described Sunday’s loss to DR Congo in the Africa Play-off Final in Rabat as a moment of profound sadness for Nigerian football.

It noted that missing a second consecutive World Cup carries significant emotional weight for a country where the national team serves as a symbol of unity and pride.

The NFF said it understands the expectations of Nigerians and acknowledged the passion and continuous support shown to the team.

It added that the technical crew and players accept responsibility for the setback and recognize that their collective effort did not deliver the result the nation deserved.

The federation also assured fans that it will begin a review of the team’s performance and take necessary steps to ensure stronger competitiveness in future international engagements.
