The Lagos branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has established an independent panel to investigate the tragic fire at Afriland Towers on Broad Street, Lagos, which claimed multiple lives, including an NBA member, Ndidi Osaemedike-Okeke.
In a statement signed by Branch Chair Uchenna Ogunedo-Akingbade, the NBA said the inquiry will examine the circumstances surrounding the fire, compliance with safety standards, and then issue recommendations to prevent future incidents.
The panel is chaired by Nonso Azih, with Vivian Okoh-Olutunfese as alternate chair and Dan Whisky as secretary. Its members include Theophilus Alao, Maduka Onwukeme, and Fola Akintunde.
The NBA described its intervention as part of its mandate to uphold the rule of law and protect fundamental human rights, and said it expects its findings to reinforce accountability and public safety in Lagos.
