Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff says the armed forces are intensifying operations against terrorism after the United States placed the country back on its “watchlist” for religious and security concerns.
Speaking with reporters in Abuja after a meeting with National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, the Defence Chief reaffirmed the military’s commitment to restoring peace and stability nationwide.
“We’re going to add more to what we’re doing to checkmate acts of terrorism within Nigeria,” he said, stressing that security agencies are working together to prevent attacks and protect communities.
He also welcomed support from international partners willing to assist in counterterrorism operations.
“It calls for collective effort. If we have countries ready to support Nigeria, we’re open to having them onboard,” he added.
The comments follow Washington’s decision to redesignate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern, citing ongoing insecurity and human rights issues, including allegations of targeted violence against Christians.
