Nigeria’s Exports Rise 25% in Two Years – NPA Chief

Nigeria’s exports have increased by 25% over the past two years, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Abubakar Dantsoho, has said.

Dantsoho attributed the growth to economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration and improved cooperation between the NPA and major port operators.

He disclosed this on Tuesday at the Annual World Ports Conference organised by the International Association of Ports and Harbours in London.

“Statistically, the exports from Nigeria in the last two years have increased by 25%,” Dantsoho said.

He explained that the growth was not limited to oil and gas but also covered manufacturing and agricultural products, including cocoa, cashew and other raw materials.

He credited the development partly to partnerships with major terminal operators, particularly APM Terminals.

The NPA chief said the authority had established about four Export Processing Terminals in collaboration with terminal operators, the Nigeria Customs Service and other government agencies.

He said the facilities would allow exporters to complete cargo processing locally before shipment, helping to ensure that Nigerian goods meet international standards.

Dantsoho also said the reforms had improved Nigeria’s ability to benefit from the African Continental Free Trade Area, which promotes trade among African countries.

He further disclosed that revenue generated by ports across Nigeria had quadrupled, alongside an increase in cargo volumes.

On infrastructure, he said the Federal Government was planning to invest $1 billion in the expansion and modernisation of Apapa Port in Lagos.

He added that the NPA was working with technology partners from Singapore and Abu Dhabi to improve port operations through digital systems.
