NNPC: Nigeria Raises Oil Production to 1.8 Million Barrels Per Day, Targets 2 Million by 2027

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) says Nigeria’s crude oil production has increased by 600,000 barrels per day, from 1.2 million to 1.8 million barrels per day, following reforms in the oil and gas sector.

NNPC Group Chief Executive Officer Bashir Bayo Ojulari disclosed this on Tuesday at the 2026 Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) in the United Arab Emirates.

Speaking at a session titled “Nigeria’s Reform Agenda: Competing for Energy Capital,” Ojulari attributed the increase to the Petroleum Industry Act, improved investment conditions and stronger partnerships with industry operators.

He said NNPC was targeting two million barrels per day by 2027 through improved infrastructure maintenance, increased output from existing assets and new projects.

“The figure of 1.8 million barrels per day is a stage in a journey towards our objective,” he said.

On domestic energy supply, Ojulari said more than 400 compressed natural gas conversion centres had been established, while over 1,000 petroleum product trucks had switched to CNG following the removal of the petrol subsidy.

He added that the Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben gas pipeline was completed in August, while the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano pipeline was expected to deliver gas to Abuja before the end of 2026.

Ojulari also said NNPC was targeting gas production of 10 billion standard cubic feet per day by 2027 and 12 billion by 2030.

He disclosed that commercial agreements covering about $20 billion in investments had been concluded for major projects, including TotalEnergies’ Ubeta, Shell’s Bonga South-West and Eni’s Zabazaba developments.

Reaffirming the company’s commitment to accountability, Ojulari said its performance would be measured by results rather than promises.

“Our track record will be judged by what is done and not by what is said,” he said.
