Five students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, and two other kidnap victims have been rescued in Ogun State following an intelligence-led security operation.
The victims were rescued early Friday around Alamala community, off Ayetoro Road Roundabout, according to Ogun State Gov. Dapo Abiodun.
Abiodun commended the Department of State Services, Nigerian Army, police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes and hunters for their role in the operation.
Five suspects were also arrested in connection with the kidnapping.
The governor said one of the rescued students sustained a gunshot injury during the operation and was evacuated for treatment. The victim has since been stabilised.
Abiodun described the rescue as a major breakthrough in the state’s efforts to combat kidnapping and other forms of criminality, saying security agencies remained on the trail of other suspects linked to the operation.
He attributed the success to intelligence sharing and collaboration among security agencies, particularly under the state’s ongoing joint security operations.
The students were abducted earlier in the week in Remo North Local Government Area.
Abiodun also commended President Bola Tinubu for strengthening the country’s security architecture and recent measures to improve the welfare of military personnel.
